Rambling of a Safety Engineer and Geek

First day of the rest of my life.

I left West Virginia today. Will the exception of a six month stint in Atlanta, the only place I have ever lived. I am on my way to Fort Worth, TX for my new job with Lockheed Martin. My wife is getting the house packed up and on the market so we can sell it as soon as possible.

I few things I observed today on my journey to Memphis, TN, the halfway point of my trip. First, the Kentucky Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (a division of KSP) is the de facto “highway patrol” in KY. While the KDCVE’s primary role is to enforce the laws and regulations for commercial vehicles, they spend far more time pulling over non-commercial vehicles. And I am sure that the officers of this division are paid less than a trooper and have less benefits.

The second thing I noticed today was that traffic in Nashville isn’t that bad. and that while the Tennessee Highway Patrol had many troopers on I-40 today, I only saw one car pulled over. Kudos to THP, for being there for the public, not the fines.
